He stressed that education serves as a cornerstone for personal growth and national development. Moreover, he highlighted the potential of educational scholarships to address youth restiveness in the Niger Delta region, fostering economic growth and improving the relationship between local communities and the oil industry.
Oseragbaje also emphasized the importance of maintaining a peaceful operational environment to ensure that host communities can reap the benefits of oil exploration and production.
Speaking on the scholarship disbursement, Adesola Adebawo, HEOSL’s General Manager for Government, Joint Ventures, and External Affairs, noted that the direct payment of funds to beneficiaries’ bank accounts exemplifies the company’s commitment to human capital development. This approach also aligns with the United Nations’ sustainable goal for education.
Adebawo advised scholarship recipients to remain focused on their studies, uphold their academic performance, and adhere to the program’s stipulations to retain their eligibility throughout its duration.
Since its establishment in 2013, the OML HEOSL scholarship scheme, in partnership with NEPL and SNRL, has provided educational support to over 5,111 scholars from the 112 host communities. This initiative contributes to educational advancement and underscores the commitment of HEOSL and its partners to local development, reflecting their dedication to sustainable growth.
