Group bemoans gender inequality, injustice in families, societies

A Non Governmental Organization, under the umbrella of Community Life Project, CLP, on Saturday, bemoaned unequal treatment and social injustice on women and girls in families and societies across the world.

The group regretted that some women and girls were being denied of their rights due to obnoxious cultural norms and values, insisting that everyone were created equal by God and deserves equal opportunities.

While discussing the theme: The Role of Women Leaders in Building Just and Healthy Families and Communities,” during a training for women leaders in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, a facilitator, Professor Simon Eze, stated that there should be no discrimination against anyone in families and societies.

Professor Eze further said that similar training has been organized for town union presidents and youths in Nsukka communities, adding that some anomalies observed in some communities must be corrected in order to place our societies on the path of justice and development.

“In some communities, when a man is sharing his assets, he gives attention to male children, thereby neglecting the female children. Even in educational training, so much attention is given to the training of male children at the detriment of their female counterparts,” Professor Eze noted.

Professor Eze, equally stated that under-representation of women in political positions and decision-making roles contributes to a lack of diverse perspectives which can perpetuate gender biases.

He further said that addressing the root causes of gender inequality through education, awareness campaigns, and cultural transformation is essential, adding that investing in women’s education, healthcare, and economic opportunities empowers them to participate fully in all aspects of society.
