In Enugu State, Governor Dr. Peter Mbah has reaffirmed his commitment to revive the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu to its previous prestigious status.
Addressing the report submission of the Committee of Inquiry on the institute’s financial practices and staff conduct, established by the government in August, Governor Mbah, represented by Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government, emphasized that this report forms a crucial foundation for comprehensive educational reforms within the state.
He clarified that the committee’s purpose was to provide empirical data for initiating reforms across all levels of education, from primary to tertiary, with IMT regaining its historical excellence being a primary objective.

Governor Mbah stressed the importance of faculty quality to ensure that IMT graduates remain competitive on both local and global scales. He compared IMT’s initial vision to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States, expressing concern over its perceived decline over the years.
The Governor expressed gratitude for the committee’s evidence-backed report, which will enable thorough verification before implementing necessary changes, and he anticipated that IMT’s transformation would serve as a model for other higher institutions in Enugu State.
Meanwhile, Prof. Edd Nwobodo, the Committee Chairman, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to contribute to IMT’s improvement through their reform-focused work.
In a brief overview of their work, Prof. Nwobodo highlighted the committee’s emphasis on reforming IMT’s systems, practices, and consequences, ensuring that things are done correctly.
The committee, established by the Enugu State Government in August, was tasked with evaluating the legal and policy framework surrounding IMT’s operations, including fee structures, staff appointments, revenue generation, and financial management. Their comprehensive examination aimed to provide well-founded conclusions and recommendations regarding these matters.
