Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force Operation DELTA SAFE, South South, has emphasized the need for functional collaboration among security agencies, especially the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
He made this call during a courtesy visit by Commodore Gideon Kachim, the Commandant of the Nigerian Navy Basic Training School (NNBTS) in Onne, Rivers State, to the 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
General Abdussalam highlighted that the AFN operates as a multifaceted entity with various branches, all working towards a common goal—protecting and defending the nation’s interests and contributing to national defense. While congratulating Commodore Kachim on his appointment, the GOC expressed confidence in the Commandant’s ability to enhance the fortunes of NNBTS. He emphasized that both the Nigerian Army (NA) and the Nigerian Navy (NN) share a common purpose within the AFN, despite their distinct roles and functions.
General Abdussalam underscored the need to instill the concept of synergy from the outset in training civilians to become military personnel at institutions like NNBTS and Depot Nigerian Army.
The GOC assured Commodore Kachim that 6 Division is always prepared to support the school in any way possible.
In response, Commodore Kachim acknowledged the tradition of collaboration between NNBTS and sister services and deemed it fitting to pay a courtesy call on the GOC since taking office as Commandant. He explained that NNBTS is responsible for training civilians to become skilled Navy personnel, emphasizing the importance of synergy in this process.
The school frequently invites sister services to provide their perspectives on various topics during training, creating opportunities for mutual learning and cooperation.
Commodore Kachim also expressed optimism that NNBTS would assist in achieving the GOC’s mission and the COAS’s command philosophy. He used the platform to request support and assistance from 6 Division when needed, highlighting the school’s commitment to its role within the AFN and national security.
