Gangsters Launch Brazen Attack on Neni Police Station, Anaocha LG Headquarters

In a daring and alarming incident, a group of approximately 30 gangsters launched a coordinated assault on the Neni Police Station and the Anaocha local government headquarters in Anambra State in the early hours of Thursday. The attackers, reportedly shouting slogans demanding the removal of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), unleashed chaos in the area, leaving residents in a state of shock and confusion.

The motives behind the attack remain unclear, although eyewitnesses recounted hearing the assailants chanting, “DPO must go; he has overstayed; he has been in Anaocha for over 15 years.” Despite this targeted call for the removal of the DPO, it remains uncertain why the local government office, situated in close proximity to the police station, was also subjected to the attack.

Initial reports suggested that the gangsters forcibly took some police operatives captive, including female personnel. However, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tochukwu Ikenga, refuted these claims, stating that no police personnel were abducted during the attack. Ikenga clarified that although the assailants utilized Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) during the assault, they did not manage to seize any firearms or detain police officers.
