In a significant political shift in Kogi State, Rt Hon Momojimoh Lawal, the former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday.
This move was accompanied by the defection of former local government vice chairmen, party executives, and over 200 stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from the Okene Local Government Area.
The announcement of their defection took place during a visit to Governor Yahaya Bello in Lokoja, where the former opposition stakeholders officially endorsed the APC candidate for the forthcoming November 11 governorship election, Usman Ododo.

During the gathering, Momojimoh Lawal acknowledged the governor’s commendable efforts in advancing the state’s infrastructure. He specifically highlighted the PDP stakeholders’ support for Usman Ododo, pledging robust mobilization efforts across not only the Kogi Central Senatorial District but the entire state.
Momojimoh stated, “On behalf of my political associates and supporters, I unequivocally pledge our steadfast support for the candidacy of Alhaji Ododo Ahmed Usman (OAU) and Comrade Joel Oyibo Salifu (JOS) for Governor and Deputy Governor, respectively. We reaffirm our comprehensive dedication to future endeavors, including extensive mobilization efforts spanning the Kogi Central Senatorial District and Kogi State at large.”
Governor Yahaya Bello, upon receiving the defectors, commended their decision to join the ruling APC and their willingness to contribute meaningfully to the progress of the state. He reiterated his commitment to an inclusive government that provides equal opportunities to both longstanding and new members of the party, emphasizing the collaborative efforts for the overall wellbeing of the populace.
