Police Detain Individuals Linked to FUOYE Student’s Murder; Reps Call for Justice

The Ekiti State Police Command has apprehended 10 individuals in connection with the tragic death of Atanda Deborah, a 200-level Nursing student at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE).

The student had gone missing, and her body was later discovered in a shallow grave located approximately 30 meters behind the Nursing Lecture Hall of the university on September 5.

In a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, called for public calm and reassured the public that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ogundare Dare, had ordered a thorough investigation to identify the perpetrators and ensure their prosecution.

Commissioner Dare urged anyone with valuable information regarding the incident to visit the Oye Divisional Police Headquarters in Oye-Ekiti or the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Reps Condemn Brutal Murder of FUOYE Student

The House of Representatives has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Atanda Modupe Deborah, the FUOYE student. Akin Rotimi, the spokesperson for the House of Representatives and representative of Ekiti North (1) (Ikole/Oye) federal constituency, expressed this condemnation and called on the Ekiti State Government, relevant security agencies, and community stakeholders to collaborate in identifying and bringing the culprits to justice.

Rotimi emphasized the need to ensure the safety and security of all residents and students in the community as they pursue their legitimate activities. He urged anyone with pertinent information related to the case to contact the Nigeria Police Force, highlighting the importance of community efforts in swiftly serving justice and restoring a sense of security.

The investigation into the tragic incident continues as authorities seek to unravel the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and bring those responsible to account for their actions.
