The Role

The Department of Life Sciences and Medicine is actively seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to support its translational biomedical research unit. The selected candidate will be involved in researching caloric restriction and its impact on chronic inflammatory, metabolic, and neurodegenerative diseases. Key responsibilities include:

• Identifying and characterizing mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of caloric restriction
• Developing laboratory protocols and clinic-laboratory methods for experimental approaches
• Designing and conducting biochemical assays to test the functional role of caloric restriction and fasting mimicking pharmaceuticals
• Analyzing and interpreting research results, collaborating with experts, and preparing result report documentation
• Contributing to scientific manuscripts, progress reports, research projects, presentations, and potential grant proposals

Qualifications

• A degree (MSc, MD, or equivalent) in natural sciences, preferably in medicine, human biology, or biochemistry
• Proficiency in molecular biology and medical (patho)physiology
• Excellent self-organizational and communication skills, suitable for working in a small team
• Flexibility and the ability to travel within the region for cooperation with partners
• Familiarity with laboratory research and experience in bioinformatics is advantageous
• Mandatory fluency in English, with a good level of French and German preferred
