In a fervent display of solidarity, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, the spiritual director of the Adoration Ministry in Enugu, Nigeria, led a special prayer session for the freedom of Nnamdi Kanu, the incarcerated leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).
The emotional prayer session, lasting over forty-three minutes, was conducted during one of the ministry’s church programmes, and the video was subsequently posted on their Facebook page.
Amidst a backdrop of ongoing legal battles and public outcry over Nnamdi Kanu’s detention, the fiery cleric passionately implored God to intervene and secure the release of the IPOB leader. Kanu has been held by the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021 on charges related to terrorism.

In the video, which has garnered significant attention online, Rev. Fr. Mbaka beseeched the Almighty for divine intervention. “There is nothing you cannot do. You are the specialist in the impossible. Into your hands, we commit Nnamdi Kanu, deliver him, deliver him. Please deliver him, Lord. For the sake of your people, oh Lord, deliver him, Lord. Give him freedom, ransom free. Emancipation. The hand that sets free those in bondage, free him from bondage,” he fervently prayed.
The clergyman further called upon God to heed the collective plea of the Igbo people, urging, “The entire Igbo people implore you, oh Lord, to grant Kanu freedom.”
Nnamdi Kanu’s case has been mired in controversy since his forced repatriation from Kenya to Nigeria, which resulted in an appellate court ordering his release due to the unlawful nature of the repatriation. However, the government’s appeal at the Supreme Court has resulted in the continued detention of the IPOB leader, leaving many supporters frustrated and anxious for his release.
Rev. Fr. Mbaka’s prayer session adds to the growing calls for justice and the rule of law to prevail in the case. As a prominent figure in Nigeria, his support carries significant weight and has ignited discussions across various communities and social media platforms.
Observers note that Nnamdi Kanu’s situation remains a deeply sensitive and divisive issue, with opinions varying widely on the appropriateness of his detention and the implications for Nigeria’s unity and stability.
As the country waits for legal proceedings to unfold, the call for justice, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law intensifies. Nigerians, both at home and abroad, are keenly watching how the judiciary will handle the case, hoping for a just resolution that upholds the principles of justice and fairness.
While Rev. Fr. Mbaka’s prayer session serves as an expression of hope for Nnamdi Kanu’s freedom, it also underscores the importance of peaceful and constructive engagement in addressing national challenges. As the prayer’s impact reverberates through the nation, Nigerians remain cautiously optimistic for a resolution that aligns with the country’s democratic values and aspirations for a united and prosperous nation.
