Former Nigerian Minister of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, Passes Away

Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, the former Minister of Science and Technology in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, has passed away after a brief illness in a hospital in Nigeria. At the age of 72, Onu, a former governor of Abia State, breathed his last, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to the nation.

Throughout his illustrious career, Onu served Nigeria as a politician, author, and engineer, contributing significantly to the country’s development and progress. His tenure as Minister of Science and Technology, spanning from November 2015 until his resignation in 2022, was marked by initiatives aimed at advancing technological innovation and scientific research in Nigeria.

Among his notable achievements was his role in championing policies to promote indigenous technological development and harnessing science for national development.

In addition to his political endeavors, Onu also made a bid for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2023 general election, albeit unsuccessfully, as he lost to President Bola Tinubu.
