The Federal Government of Nigeria has pledged its support to the Kano Independent Research Centre Trust (KIRCT) to address healthcare challenges facing the nation.
This commitment was announced during a visit by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, to the research institute.
Professor Pate expressed his optimism regarding the biomedical research capabilities of the KIRCT. He emphasized the importance of generating knowledge that is tailored to Nigeria’s specific healthcare needs and challenges. The Minister commended the dedication of the research team and pledged to mobilize support to enable the institute’s success.

He encouraged the researchers at the Center to intensify their efforts in achieving the goals set for the research institute. Professor Pate stressed the significance of a country’s determination to progress and succeed, highlighting the importance of domestic efforts in nation-building.
The Minister also promised to accompany the Director General of the KIRCT, Professor Hamisu Salisu, to a United Nations Conference in New York to advocate for international partnerships with health institutions.
Professor Salisu, the Director General of KIRCT, described the research institute as the largest biomedical research center not only in Nigeria but also in the whole of Africa. He emphasized the potential benefits of the Center for the health of Kano State residents, Nigerians, and the global community. Professor Salisu offered the assistance of the Center in warehousing vaccines and sought the Federal Ministry of Health’s support to digitalize health facilities in Northern Nigeria.
