The Nigerian Federal Government has issued a stark warning to public servants whose records are not verified on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
According to a statement by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, any officer whose records cannot be verified will be delisted from the payroll on Friday, October 27, 2023.
IPPIS was introduced by the Federal Government in 2007 to enhance transparency, accuracy, security, and reliability in managing personnel records while reducing unnecessary expenditures on personnel costs. The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has invested considerable time and resources to verify the records of all civil servants using IPPIS.

This verification process included the establishment of an online update portal in April 2017, as well as extensive awareness campaigns and publicity efforts across various media platforms. It further involved a physical verification phase launched in 2018 to confirm the accuracy of personnel records.
Nonetheless, some public servants failed to participate in these verification exercises. As a consequence, the OHCSF suspended the salaries of these officers from September 2023. Following appeals from the affected officers, the OHCSF reopened the verification portal for a brief period from October 3 to 13, 2023, to enable them to update their records. Subsequently, these officers were requested to attend a physical verification exercise in Abuja.
The physical verification process in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) encountered initial challenges characterized by overcrowding and a lack of order. Authorities have since resolved these issues, and the ongoing two-week exercise is progressing effectively.
The OHCSF underscores that non-compliant officers have subjected themselves to inconvenience due to their failure to adhere to official directives. They emphasize that the verification of records for all civil servants will be concluded at the end of the ongoing exercise, and any officer whose records remain unverified will be removed from the government payroll.
