The long-overdue payments owed to beneficiaries of the N-Power program by the former administration of President Muhammadu Buhari are finally being settled by the current government.
According to Betta Edu, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, the process of disbursing arrears commenced on Wednesday and will persist until every beneficiary receives their outstanding payments.
During a recent appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Edu reassured N-Power beneficiaries across the nation that the funds owed from previous years are now being released to their accounts, addressing a financial burden that had lingered for an extended period.

“This ongoing payment for N-Power is a testament to the commitment of the present government to settle financial dues owed to the beneficiaries, ensuring that every individual who has served receives their entitlement,” Edu affirmed.
The N-Power initiative, initially instituted on June 8, 2016, aimed to mitigate youth unemployment and contribute to social development. However, the program faced a temporary suspension when President Bola Tinubu assumed office after President Buhari.
Edu clarified that while the Renewed Hope N-Power program hasn’t been officially relaunched, the current focus remains on addressing pending issues and resolving financial burdens accumulated in previous years before fully reinstating the program.
Explaining the hurdles encountered, Edu elaborated on the challenges faced in recovering funds from consultants who previously managed the disbursement of payments. Delays in settling these arrears were attributed to administrative bottlenecks, leading the government to reclaim these funds and begin the meticulous process of verifying and disbursing payments directly.
“We’ve taken the steps to bring the funds back into the government’s account and are undergoing a comprehensive scrutiny of the beneficiaries to ensure an accurate and fair disbursement, hence the delay,” Edu emphasized, appealing for continued patience from the program participants.
