Nigerians have been informed by Special Assistant to the President on Special Duties and Domestic Affairs, Toyin Subaru, that the impending introduction of compressed natural gas (CNG) buses will result in a decrease in CNG costs, which will drop to N230 per kilogram.
In an effort to ease the nation’s transportation problems, the government is getting ready to deploy 11,500 gas-powered buses nationwide.
At a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Bank of Industry headquarters in Abuja, where a formal collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology and FEMADEC group was established to improve sustainable transportation in Nigeria, the presidential assistant made this news.

Subaru outlined the possible advantages of this program, stressing that it would enable Nigerians to save a great deal on transportation expenses and encourage the adoption of CNG as a more economical substitute for gasoline.
The strategy calls for using a number of truck stations to distribute CNG throughout Nigeria. Users will be able to find local CNG stations with the help of a companion smartphone app. Customers may save a lot of money by switching to CNG because it costs N230 per kilogram instead of N680 per liter like gasoline does.
By 2027, the government wants one million CNG cars to be on Nigerian roads. Michael Oluwagbemi, the Presidential CNG Initiative’s Program Director, announced the government’s plans to build 1,000 conversion workshops around the nation, potentially creating jobs for over 50,000 people and lessening the effects of the elimination of subsidies.
Within a given time frame, the Presidential CNG Initiative aims to supply 55,000 conversion kits for vehicles that are now reliant on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). This ambitious strategy aims to revolutionize the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) in Nigeria’s transportation industry through ongoing partnerships with diverse stakeholders. The expected outcomes include significant cost savings, lower inflation, and the creation of thousands of new employment.
