FG Partners with WEMA Bank to Set Up MSME Tech Hubs

Targets 1 Million Youths and 500,000 MSMEs with Grants and Digital Training

In a bid to provide more digital job opportunities for young Nigerians and bolster the country’s economy, the Federal Government, through the Office of the Vice President, is set to launch a groundbreaking initiative known as FGN/ALAT Digital and SkillNnovation Hub.

In a statement released by Olusola Abiola, Director Information, Office of the Vice President, this ambitious project aims to empower one million youths across the nation with digital and related skills, paving the way for entrepreneurship and employment in the digital economy.

The strategic partnership with WEMA Bank, one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, will see the establishment of these cutting-edge digital hubs in seven states. The inaugural launch will take place in Lagos and Borno States, followed by subsequent rollouts in Katsina, Cross River, Anambra, Oyo, and Kano. This extensive network ensures broad access to digital education and resources, benefiting aspiring young entrepreneurs from diverse regions.

A recent meeting in Abuja brought together representatives from WEMA Bank and Vice President Kashim Shettima to finalize the details of this transformative initiative. The FGN/ALAT Digital and SkillNnovation Hub aims to achieve multiple strategic objectives. Foremost, it seeks to empower young entrepreneurs by providing them with tailored financial products, training, and support to establish sustainable businesses that will contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.

Moreover, the initiative aims to support tech-savvy youths who harbor a passion for digital innovations. It intends to offer them financial solutions, training, and access to strategic partnerships, propelling technological advancements within the country. Additionally, the project seeks to empower young employees, particularly those serving through the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), by integrating them as integral parts of Nigeria’s workforce.

The FGN/ALAT Digital and SkillNnovation Hub will operate as a centralized platform, delivering cutting-edge digital skills, mentorship, and networking opportunities. With a targeted focus on promoting entrepreneurship and skills development, the initiative aims to integrate one million youths into the digital economy. By strengthening Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), the project seeks to directly impact the country’s economic growth.

A key component of the initiative is the specialized training to be provided to one million young adults. The curriculum will cover essential subjects such as software engineering, product management, business analysis, cloud computing, product design, and more. Graduates will be equipped with in-demand skills, aligning them with the needs of the digital job market.

Additionally, the FGN/ALAT Digital and SkillNnovation Hub will offer mentorship to 500,000 SMEs across Nigeria. Industry experts will provide guidance and support to these SMEs, enabling them to thrive and grow. Coaches will play a pivotal role in training and upskilling these businesses, fostering accelerated growth and success.

To further enhance the initiative’s impact, a total of N500 million in grants will be made available to SMEs and techpreneurs. This financial support, facilitated through a collaborative arrangement between the Federal Government and WEMA Bank, is expected to fuel innovation, encourage entrepreneurship, and create a robust ecosystem for digital enterprises in Nigeria.
