FG Files Contempt Case Against NLC, TUC Over Alleged Breach of Restriction Order

In a significant legal development, the Federal Government of Nigeria has taken action against the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) by filing a contempt case.

The case comes in response to the alleged resistance shown by the unions in adhering to an order that restrained them from embarking on industrial action.

The NLC and TUC, two prominent labour unions in Nigeria, have been vocal in their demands for improved working conditions and better wages for workers across various sectors.

Their advocacy has led to numerous protests and demonstrations, reflecting the depth of public concern over workers’ rights and welfare.

However, the situation took a legal turn when the government sought to restrict the unions from engaging in further industrial action through a court order. The order was meant to ensure stability and prevent disruptions to essential services in the country.

Despite the court order, the unions have allegedly continued to press their demands and engage in activities that the government perceives as a breach of the restriction order. As a result, the Federal Government has taken the step of filing a contempt case against both the NLC and TUC.
