The FCCPC had previously taken action against illegal loan apps, permanently delisting and initiating the removal of such apps from the Google Play Store. This move comes as part of efforts to protect consumers from harassment and ensure that digital lending services operate within regulatory guidelines.
The Guidelines for Digital Lending, introduced in 2022, are aimed at ensuring fair practices, transparency, and the protection of consumers’ rights in the digital lending space. The FCCPC has also requested Google to remove apps that do not comply with these guidelines.
This crackdown on illegal loan apps is a positive step towards safeguarding the interests of borrowers and maintaining a secure and regulated digital lending environment in Nigeria.
