The Federal Government weekend, commended the University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, over its efforts in fostering national development through sustainable utilization of water and bioresources.
The Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Muhammed Goronyo, commended the university during the launch of the Faculty of Biological Sciences Bioresources Management Expo, where he emphasized that UNN has developed a research model to tackle issues of climate change, water and food security, sanitation which contributes to the growth of Nigeria.
Represented at the event by Chief Ferdinand Adie, a Director in the APC Presidential Council, the minister noted that UNN aligns with the current administration of President Bola Tinubu’s objectives to enhance food self-sufficiency in Nigeria.

He stated, “I appreciate UNN’s initiative in creating a research model to address climate change, water security, sanitation, food security, and safety to propel the nation forward.”
Goronyo addressed the crucial issue of water resources management, stressing the importance of effective water management for sustainable development and flood prevention. He highlighted the challenges faced by many in accessing clean water and sanitation in Nigeria and pledged that the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation would address these challenges.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor of UNN, Prof. Igwe, lauded the Faculty of Biological Sciences for its efforts to reduce student and societal dependency and unemployment, highlighting the university’s commitment to empower students and society to become self-sustaining and job creators.
The Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, UNN, PROF. Emeka Nweze, described the occasion as a milestone and emphasized its role in forging strategic relationships to promote wealth creation and better living conditions.
Speakers at the event, including Harrison Ogara, Oluwayemi Isaiah, Beloved Dan Anike, and the Commissioner for Agriculture in Enugu State, Mr. Patrick Nwabueze Ubru, pledged to collaborate closely with the faculty.
