The COAS expressed gratitude to the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for its support in realizing the goals of the Nigerian Army Aviation. He noted that this initiative aligns with his Command Philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a well-trained, equipped, and highly motivated force capable of fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities within a joint environment.
General Lagbaja highlighted the progress made by the Nigerian Army in aviation since 2014, including the training of pilots, aircraft engineers, technicians, and ground support crews. He emphasized the need for international collaborations and mentorship from experienced aviation outfits like the Nigerian Air Force to ensure the success and safety of the nascent aviation division.
The COAS underlined the critical role of the Nigerian Army Aviation in improving the agility, responsiveness, and effectiveness of ground troops. It will also contribute to the operational success of joint and coalition forces, focusing on tactical and operational engagements. He stressed that the Air Force handles more complex tasks to achieve strategic effects, while the Army Aviation supports ground forces directly.
General Lagbaja emphasized the importance of ideas and insights gleaned from the seminar, which will guide capacity building, infrastructure development, and future acquisitions of advanced aviation platforms. He cited the experiences of international partners as instructive examples of how aviation support can effectively counter contemporary security threats.
