Federal Civil Servants Paid December salary – FG

Amidst a swirling storm of allegations and counterclaims, the Office of the Accountant General affirmed on Saturday that the salaries of Federal Civil Servants have indeed been paid, addressing concerns about reported delays in wage disbursements.

This assurance, however, did not stem the onslaught of criticism from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). In a scathing statement, the party’s spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, condemned President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its purported failure to promptly remit salaries to civil servants.

Ologunagba characterized the delay as “insensitive and unacceptable,” decrying the administration’s alleged role in plunging the country into hunger and despair.

Pushing back against these claims, Bawa Mokwa, the spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General, asserted confidently that salaries had indeed been distributed. He urged verification from relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to confirm the timely payments, noting that the process commenced last week and continued until recently.

While salaries were confirmed to have been disbursed, the anticipation for the promised wage awards still hangs in the balance. Bawa clarified that these additional payments would follow the salary disbursements but did not provide an exact timeline.

Adding weight to the Accountant General’s statement, a senior civil servant in a Federal Government ministry confirmed the salary payouts, citing their receipt of the salary on Friday. Notably, this confirmation underscored that the wage awards were not included in this payment cycle.

The delay in salary disbursements under the Bola Tinubu administration has triggered considerable backlash. Some civil servants faced disruptions in their November 2023 salary payments, extending into December, a concerning departure from the norm for many.

In response to the PDP’s relentless critique, the All Progressives Congress (APC) rebuffed allegations of insensitivity. Nze Chidi Duru, the Deputy National Organising Secretary of the APC, attributed the reported delays to a potential glitch in the system. Duru cautioned the PDP against politicizing critical national issues, urging restraint in making unsubstantiated claims.
