The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) carried out the demolition of a multimillion-naira duplex constructed on an unapproved plot, plot 226 in Wuse Zone 6.
The Director of the Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Gidado, revealed that the building had been developed illegally, disregarding prior warnings.
Gidado explained that an extensive investigation was conducted to determine the rightful owner of the plot, as conflicting claims had arisen among parties involved. The investigation conclusively revealed that the developer was not the plot’s owner, leading to the decision to demolish the building.

Emphasizing the administration’s commitment to enforcing development rules and regulations, Gidado stated that the status of defaulting developers would not be considered if violations occurred.
Gidado clarified, “We demolished the duplex because somebody built on someone else’s land without valid title and building plan approval. We allowed the building to this stage before demolishing it because we had to follow all due processes.”
He also noted that the supposed owner of the building had received multiple notices to halt construction, but due to non-compliance, the demolition became necessary. Gidado indicated that the legal department would be consulted to determine the subsequent actions against the developer in light of the situation.
