Dele Farotimi, a political activist and spokesperson for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council in the 2023 presidential election, has strongly criticized the notion that Nigerians’ plight will improve once President Bola Tinubu appoints his ministers.
During an interview on the online program 90Minutes Africa, Farotimi referred to those holding such beliefs as “fools.”
He argued that the Nigerian ruling class, including Tinubu, does not have a genuine stake in the country, as they hold their assets abroad. Their preference for foreign doctors and schools for their children, according to Farotimi, highlights their detachment from the everyday struggles of Nigerians.

Despite Tinubu’s delayed appointment of ministers, some people hope that once the government forms, it will initiate policies to alleviate citizens’ suffering. However, Farotimi dismissed such optimism, asserting that nothing positive can emerge from the Nigerian ruling class.
The retired lawyer further criticized Tinubu’s character, stating that it was widely known and warned against from the beginning. He accused Tinubu of forcing himself into office and corrupting various aspects of society.
In contrast, Farotimi praised Peter Obi as a rallying point for the oppressed and marginalized segments of Nigerian society. He acknowledged Obi’s role in empowering people and urged for collective responsibility in utilizing this power for the betterment of the country.
