DSP Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed that the native doctor was released by his abductors in the early hours of Saturday. However, he did not reveal the exact amount paid to secure his release, but he mentioned that the abductors demanded a substantial sum. Speculations suggest that the ransom was between N200 million and N300 million.
The police spokesman further mentioned that efforts are underway to gather information from Chidozie Nwangwu about his abduction and the identity of his captors, so that necessary actions can be taken to apprehend them.
Following his release, friends and well-wishers of Akwa Okuko Tiwaraki gathered at his palatial mansion to celebrate his freedom. It was reported that his friends rallied together to raise the initial sum demanded by the abductors, and an additional N50 million was also paid before his release.
The news of his release has brought relief to his loved ones and the community. However, it also underscores the prevailing security challenges in some parts of the country, as incidents of kidnapping continue to be a cause for concern.
As authorities continue to investigate this incident, it is hoped that measures will be taken to enhance security in the region and curtail such criminal activities. The safety and security of citizens remain a priority, and collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies and the public are crucial to achieving this goal.
