In the bustling community of Mararaba, a satellite town in Nasarawa State along the Keffi-Abuja highway, a disturbing underworld of kidney trading has emerged. Young men, grappling with financial hardships, have become targets for agents strategically positioned in satellite communities. These agents, employed by a Lagos-based broker, seek out and persuade individuals from low economic backgrounds to part with their kidneys.

The investigation exposed harrowing tales of exploitation and despair. Aminu Yahuza, a 25-year-old unemployed man, sold his kidney for a million naira, only to fall victim to financial deceit by acquaintances, leaving him without his organ and half the promised money. A similar fate befell his cousin, Abbas Yusuf, who sold his kidney for 1.2 million naira, the highest among his peers.

The modus operandi involves local agents, like Abdulrahman and Habib, recruited by the kidney broker to target financially vulnerable individuals. Their actions reveal a distressing pattern where these young men, often below the age of 25, are coerced into sacrificing their health for financial gain.

Alliance Hospital in Abuja has been accused of being complicit in this nefarious trade. Despite allegations and public outcry, the hospital’s management continues to deny involvement, citing consent forms and affidavits.
