The trial of former Acting Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Haruna Baba Jauro, and two others has been adjourned until November 21, 2023, by Justice Tijani Ringim of the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Jauro, along with Dr. Dauda Bitrus Bawa and Thlumbau Enterprises Limited, is facing a 19-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged theft and money laundering amounting to N304,118,500 (Three Hundred and Four Million One Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Five Hundred Naira).
During the recent court proceedings, Orji Chukwuma, the third prosecution witness, testified about meeting the defendant while he was the Head of Special Task Force 3 at the EFCC, Lagos.

He discussed the admissibility of statements given by the defendant in a previous trial-within-trial. These statements were admitted as evidence and marked as exhibits.
When questioned about the conditions in which the statements were obtained, the witness emphasized the conducive and public environment in which they were taken, with cautionary words administered to the defendant. The trial will continue on November 21 and 22, 2023.
