ESUT Inaugurates 15 KVA Solar Power at Postgraduate School
The Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, on Friday, inaugurated a 15 KVA solar power system at the School of Postgraduate Studies to enhance staff and student efficiency.
During the inauguration, Professor Okolie was accompanied by key university officials, including the Registrar, Chief Ambrose Ugwu; ESUT Bursar, Dr. Austin Ojeh; ESUT Librarian, Dr. Ukamaka Eze; and the Director of ESUT Municipal Services, Dr. Thomas Onah.
He expressed gratitude to the Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa-led Governing Council for approving funding for the solar project.
The Vice Chancellor highlighted the high electricity tariffs from the national grid as a driving force behind ESUT’s commitment to renewable energy. He stated that the university aims to transition all faculties to solar power, with the Faculty of Management Sciences expected to be next, courtesy of a private donor.
He also called on private institutions, alumni, and other stakeholders to support ESUT’s renewable energy initiatives.
Enhancing Research and Academic Excellence
Professor Okolie emphasized the university’s goal of making the Postgraduate School a hub for research, innovation, and global best practices.
ESUT Registrar, Chief Ambrose Ugwu, urged staff and students to protect the solar facilities, ensuring their long-term benefits.
He also reiterated the university management’s commitment to preventing unnecessary delays in postgraduate programs, emphasizing that students must complete their studies within the stipulated timeframe.
Dean of the Postgraduate School, Professor Charles Chime, commended the ESUT Management for implementing the solar project, noting its significant role in the school’s digital transformation.
He also highlighted the environmental benefits, such as reducing noise pollution and carbon emissions typically associated with generator use.
With this initiative, ESUT is taking a crucial step toward energy sustainability, academic excellence, and a cleaner environment.
