ESUT prioritizes clean environment …distributes 30 mowing machines, 30 cutlasses to faculties


Enhancing Cleanliness and Aesthetic Appeal Across ESUT

The Management of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), on Wednesday, distributed 30 mowing machines to 14 faculties, the School of Postgraduate Studies, and the Open and Distance Learning Centre. This initiative aims to support the maintenance of a clean environment and enhance the aesthetic value of the University.

In addition to the mowing machines, the University also distributed 30 cutlasses to the benefiting Deans of Faculties for similar purposes. These tools are intended to ensure that faculty premises and the entire University campus remain well-maintained and conducive for learning and working.

Vice Chancellor’s Remarks: Speaking during the distribution, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, explained that the machines were procured to assist faculties in keeping their areas clean at all times. He stated that the environment outside the jurisdiction of the faculties would be managed by the Directorate of Municipal Services.

Professor Okolie encouraged the Deans to initiate a student work program, where willing students could be trained to operate the machines and receive stipends for their services. This approach not only promotes cleanliness but also provides opportunities for students to contribute meaningfully to the University community.

Commitment to Environmental Excellence

The Director of ESUT Municipal Services, Dr. Thomas Onah, noted that the procurement aligns with the University Management’s vision of creating a clean and habitable environment conducive to studies. He praised the initiative, assuring that the purpose of acquiring the machines would not be defeated.

Dr. Onah urged recipients to ensure proper maintenance and deployment of the equipment, emphasizing the importance of fostering a safe and serene atmosphere across the University. Dean of School of Postgraduate Studies’ Reaction: Upon receiving the mowing machines, the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Professor Charles Chime, expressed gratitude to the University Management. He highlighted the significance of the initiative in ensuring an adequate and conducive working and learning environment for staff and students.

Professor Chime lauded the Management for the effort, stating that it would contribute to the aesthetic facelift of the University. This development reflects the institution’s commitment to enhancing both its physical appearance and overall quality of life for its members.

By equipping faculties with modern tools for environmental maintenance, ESUT Management demonstrates its dedication to fostering a clean, safe, and inspiring academic space. This initiative sets a benchmark for other institutions in promoting sustainability and student involvement.
