The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) on Friday matriculated 7,174 fresh students into various degree programmes across 14 faculties of the University for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The matriculation ceremony, held at the university’s main campus in Agbani, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, witnessed heavy human and vehicular traffic.

Vice Chancellor’s Address

In his convocation address during the 44th matriculation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, congratulated the new students and urged them to imbibe good virtues while avoiding social vices.

“Having climbed another ladder to become a university student, you should appreciate the efforts of your parents, guardians, and loved ones by being diligent in your studies. ESUT is defined by highly committed staff who deeply care about their students and one another in their call to duty and service to humanity.”

He also warned against examination malpractice, admission racketeering, sorting for grades, and sexual harassment, stating that any breach of these offenses would attract severe sanctions from the university authorities.

Professor Okolie further revealed that the university management is planning to plant at least 3,000 trees to create a more eco-friendly environment.

The Vice Chancellor acknowledged the support of the Enugu State Governor, Barr. Peter Mbah, stating that ESUT had introduced decentralized matriculation to enable parents to interface with staff from various departments where their wards are admitted.

Compliance and Faculty Monitoring

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Chike Nwoha, led the university’s monitoring team across all faculties during the event. He commended the Deans of Faculties for their total compliance with university directives.
