ESUT inaugurates Committee to check security breaches

Following deteriorating security situation resulting in looting, stealing and vandalism of critical facilities at both Agbani and Enugu campuses, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, on Wednesday, inaugurated a committee to check security breaches.

This committee was a fallout of the University Management meeting during which the resolution to embark on fundamental restructuring of security architecture in the campuses was reached.

The security committee which was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, was charged with the responsibility of reorganizing the entire security architecture with a view to restoring work ethics and confidence among security personnel.

The Vice Chancellor who was represented by his deputy deputy, Professor Chike Nwoha, during the inauguration also mandated the committee to delineate the campuses into manageable beats and coordinate the activities of the officers designated to man the beats.

Other terms of references include: “To liaise with neighbourhood watch groups operating within and around the campuses including Man O’ War, NDLEA, etc in information sharing and security operations.

“To conduct effective enumeration of the security personnel and recommend practical strategies for improving service delivery and accountability and to take other practical measures to stem the tide of stealing and robbery in the campuses.”

While addressing members of the committee, ESUT Registrar, Ambrose Ugwu, enjoined them to give the assignment the necessary commitment required to remedy worsening security situation in the two campuses.

He further assured that the Management of the University would give the committee all the required supports it needs to deliver on the aforementioned mandates.

In his post inauguration speech, the chairman of the committee, Obinna Ogbodo, thanked the ESUT Management for reposing the security responsibilities on the members.

Ogbodo, who is a Principal Assistant Registrar in the University further pledged that the committee would live up to expectations.

Other members of the committee include, Director of ESUT Municipal Services, Dr. Thomas Onah; Director of Works, Engr Ezekwesili Onah; DSP Loveday Ukenyi of Campus Monitoring Unit; PA to the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Jonathan Okolie.

The rest are the Chairman, ESUT Ventures Committee, Charles Ogbodo; SUG President, Chiagozie Ezenwaji; and the Chief Security Officer of ESUT, Thomas Okoro.

I must applicate the committees that accept to carry the challenges we have in the security offers on their shoulders, please my suggestion is that there many short cot that our enemies do use to attack us and go free, like pharmacy reod,Engr, between the new sit for Anglican and ODL I have attacked twice and their run away,may God help you all IJNA, please note that the embarrassment is much on us, Thanks 🙏
