ESUT graduates 9,494, as 199 bag First Class


ESUT Celebrates Academic Excellence in 20th Convocation Ceremony

The Vice Chancellor of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, on Thursday, announced that a total of 9,494 graduands comprising 6,949 first-degree and 2,525 higher-degree graduands have been found worthy of receiving the university’s seal of authority during its 20th convocation scheduled for November 23, 2024.

He equally disclosed that 199 of the first-degree graduands made first-class honors, while 2,060 others made Second Class Upper Division, and 4,456 made Second Class Lower Division. Additionally, the University produced 56 graduands with Third Class honors and 178 classified pass degrees for Medicine and Surgery and Pharmacy graduands.

In terms of postgraduate awards, the University will confer 1,413 postgraduate diplomas, 790 Master’s degrees, and 322 Ph.Ds. This reflects ESUT’s commitment to fostering advanced research and academic excellence.

Honorary Degrees Recognize Outstanding Contributions

Professor Okolie announced that the Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah, and a global investor, Mr. Bernd Bergmair, would be bestowed with Honorary Doctoral Degrees (Honoris Causa) in Business Administration. This recognition acknowledges their remarkable achievements and contributions to societal development.

The Governing Council, Senate, staff, and students of the University expressed appreciation for the award recipients’ leadership ingenuity and dedication to progress. “The overall best graduating student, Osita Tracy Ezine, of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, achieved an impressive CGPA of 4.88,” Professor Okolie added.

Academic Front: The University has attained 97% accreditation for all its programs, ensuring compliance with national standards. Professor Okolie praised the support of Governor Peter Mbah, highlighting his provision of critical equipment worth over N200 million for the National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation and resource verification of Radiography, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health, and Biomedical Engineering.

“Permit me, ladies and gentlemen, to seize this medium to appreciate and thank His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for providing all critical equipment worth over N200,000,000 for NUC accreditation and resource verification. Indeed, ESUT ranks among top universities in Nigeria with modern and digital equipment to compete with other universities abroad,” he said.

The University has also promoted qualified staff timely, leveraging TETFund interventions to sponsor them to local and international conferences. These efforts underscore ESUT’s dedication to advancing knowledge and enhancing faculty expertise.

Convocation Lecture by Senator Dave Umahi: The Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, will deliver the convocation lecture on November 21, 2024, at the newly built “His Excellency Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s Multipurpose Auditorium” in Agbani. This lecture promises to provide valuable insights into governance, infrastructure development, and education as key drivers of societal progress.

As ESUT celebrates its 20th convocation, the recognition of leaders like Governor Peter Mbah and Mr. Bernd Bergmair highlights the importance of collaboration between academia, government, and industry in driving sustainable development.
