The Chairman of the Governing Council, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Sir Chinyeaka Christian Ohaa, has urged the Management of the University to prioritize agriculture in order to make the Institution self-sustaining.
Ohaa who was on oversight visit of facilities in the University with another member of the Governing Council, Engr. Ifeanyi J. Ajibo, weekend, urged the Management to put on their thinking cap to generate revenue which would help in the running of the University through agriculture.
He equally enjoined the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management, ESUT, to originate strategic documents which would help the University Management to rejuvenate agricultural production in the Institution, adding that the Council would support the project.

“We thank God the University is trying to put in one or two efforts in agriculture but they still have to do a serious work there because it can raise the economy of the University and the state at large if we were able to get it right with what I am seeing now.
“We are going to make a good outing there because we have a big space and a good opportunity to embark on robust agricultural production there. We have directed the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture to give us strategic documents which would make the agric farm to be very functional.
“This is the time for us to wake up because Nigerian economy is not encouraging laziness, so, we have to put on our thinking cap and be creative and innovative, ” he said.
He commended the progress of work at the pharmacy ultra-modern building, charging the contractor handling the project, Halcon Engineering Ltd.to finish the work at record time.
In their separate remarks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chike Nwoha, who represented the Vice Chancellor, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, and the Registrar of the University, Ambrose G. Ugwu, thanked the Chairman of the Council for embarking on the painstaking exercise.
While describing him as “a working chairman of the Council,” they said that the visit would put the Management and functionaries of the University on their toes.
The Prochancellor and Engr. Ajibo were accompanied on the facilities visit by the DVC ESUT, Prof. Chike Nwoha; Provost, ESUT College of Medicine, Prof. Uchenna Ekwochi; University Registrar, Ambrose Ugwu; University Librarian, Dr. Jacinta Eze; Director of Physical Planning, Prof.Francis Iloeje; Director of Works, Engr. Ezekwesili Onah; Director of Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ezeanioma, and the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Oliver Ngwu, Director TETFund, Dr Onyeka Egbuagu among other key functionaries of ESUT.
Facilities inspected were; the Ultramodern Pharmacy Building nearing completion, the University’s Works Yard and ESUT Farms managed by the faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management.
