The Enugu State Police Command has clarified a viral video that sparked allegations of organ harvesting at a state hotel, confirming that the incident involved extortion and fraud rather than an attempt at murder or organ theft.
The video, widely circulated on X.com on Sunday, depicted two women being rescued from a hotel room, with initial claims suggesting they were being prevented from having their organs stolen. According to one of the women in the video, the men involved were armed, and she attempted to jump out of a window to escape before being saved.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the police command’s spokesperson, addressed the incident in a press release on X.com on Monday. Ndukwe stated that preliminary investigations revealed the incident was not an attempted murder but a case of money extortion and fraud. He emphasized that the misleading narrative surrounding the incident did not reflect the actual circumstances.

The police report detailed that on July 3, the women, allegedly commercial sex workers, met the suspects at a hotel on Agbani Road in Enugu. When the women returned to the same hotel the next day, the men threatened, beat, and tied them up. The suspects then demanded the women’s phones and account information, including their Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), and proceeded to withdraw ₦120,000.00 from the victims’ accounts.
The video, which captured the aftermath of the incident, showed the women managing to escape from the hotel room. During their escape, they left behind a bag containing two kitchen knives and sportswear, which the police have since recovered.
As the investigation continues to apprehend the suspects, the Enugu State Police Command has issued advisories to hotel owners and managers to enhance security measures. They urged hotel staff to ensure thorough screening of guests and the collection of verifiable information before lodging them. Additionally, the police advised young women to avoid going out with strangers, particularly men, to prevent falling victim to similar crimes.
The police’s clarification aims to dispel the misinformation and panic caused by the viral video, focusing instead on the actual crime of extortion and fraud committed against the two women. The ongoing investigation seeks to bring the perpetrators to justice and reinforce the importance of security and vigilance within the community.
