In a concerted effort to address rising concerns of crime and insecurity, Enugu State’s Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, has initiated a comprehensive awareness campaign across all 17 local government areas within the state.
The primary objective of these visits is to motivate and educate members of neighbourhood watch groups, urging them to take an active role in safeguarding the lives and property of residents.
During recent visits to Uzo Uwani and Ezeagu local government areas, Commissioner Agbo emphasized the necessity for reforming and reinvigorating these neighbourhood watch groups to enhance their effectiveness.

He pointed out that both the government and the public have expressed disappointment in the groups’ performance, as they have not fulfilled the promises made during their inauguration. Incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery have persisted in various communities, prompting the need for these reforms.
Commissioner Agbo encouraged members of these groups to approach their responsibilities with renewed enthusiasm and work collaboratively with the police and other law enforcement agencies.
He also expressed appreciation for the dedication of neighbourhood watch groups, acknowledging the challenges they face while fulfilling their duties.
In response, the Chairpersons of Uzo Uwani and Ezeagu Local Government Areas expressed gratitude to Governor Peter Mbah for taking proactive measures to strengthen security in the state through these reforms.
