The identified roads in the Enugu urban area span a variety of neighbourhoods, including Trans Ekulu, Abakpa, Emene, Awkunanaw, Coal Camp, Asata, New Layout, Achara Layout, and Idaw River.
Notably, the government plans to dualize certain roads and construct flyovers at strategic points to alleviate traffic congestion, with Abakpa Junction and Chris Chemist/Old Park junction being among the targeted areas.
Furthermore, the Enugu State Executive Council has earmarked several roads outside the Enugu metropolis for improvement, recognizing their importance in connecting local governments within the three senatorial zones.
Projects like the dualization of Enugu-Ugwogo Nike-Opi-Nsukka road and GRA – Trans Ekulu road are intended to address heavy traffic concerns.
Dr. Otiji assured that the projects will be executed in a sequential manner and appealed to the people of Enugu State for patience during the implementation process.
Aka Eze Aka, the Commissioner for Information, also provided insights into the State Executive Council’s broader initiatives.
These include short to long-term programmes aimed at enhancing security, mitigating challenges arising from fuel subsidy removal, and transitioning the state towards e-governance.
As part of palliative efforts, mass transit buses will be provided to support the populace and alleviate their difficulties.
The council also sanctioned the implementation of advanced security infrastructure to bolster the state’s security framework. Additionally, there are plans to digitize government agencies (MDAs) to improve efficiency, laying the foundation for the envisioned e-governance platform championed by Governor Peter Mbah.
Furthermore, Dr. Malachy Agbo, the Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication, shared that the Enugu State Government will soon initiate the distribution of palliatives.
He emphasized the decentralization of palliative management through local government councils to ensure an effective and localized response to the needs of the people.
This move is in response to the impact of fuel subsidy removal on the lives of Enugu residents and aims to alleviate their hardships.
