Enugu State Governor, Peter Mba, recently took possession of fourteen recovered properties that were previously seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The handover ceremony was conducted by Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the anti-graft agency, at the EFCC headquarters.
These assets, including real estate, radio and television transmission equipment, and a medical facility, were confiscated as part of an investigation that began in 2007. The inquiry identified all relevant data and individuals involved in the misappropriation of these assets.

The restitution of these assets to Enugu State follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive and underscores the EFCC’s commitment to returning stolen assets to their rightful owners. Among the assets recovered are properties previously linked to former Enugu State governor, Chimaroke Nnamani.

Nnamani, along with his assistant Sunday Anyaogu and six companies associated with them, including Rainbownet Nigeria Limited, Cosmos FM, Capital City Automobile Nigeria Limited, Renaissance University Teaching Hospital, and Mea Mater Elizabeth High School, faced charges brought by the EFCC in 2007.
Four of these companies, Rainbownet Nigeria Limited, Cosmos FM, Capital City Automobile Nigeria Limited, and Renaissance University Teaching Hospital, pleaded guilty to charges brought against them by the EFCC. A Lagos court, presided over by Judge Mohammed Yinusa, subsequently issued a final forfeiture order for these businesses, in accordance with the EFCC Establishment Act.
While the assets have now been returned to Enugu State, questions remain about why they were not recovered earlier and why they are still in disrepair. Some residents of Enugu State hope that Governor Mba will not return the properties to those who illegally obtained them, especially considering the support Nnamani may have provided to his gubernatorial campaign. Only time will reveal the outcome of this situation.
