Enugu Governor, Barr Mbah hails tribunal verdict, says it is victory for democracy

Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has expressed his appreciation for the Enugu State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal’s decision to dismiss the petitions filed by the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Labour Party (LP) candidates contesting his victory in the March 18, 2023 governorship election.

He characterized this ruling as a win for democracy and the people of Enugu State.

Dr. Mbah also reached out to the opposition candidates and their political parties, emphasizing that the task of advancing Enugu’s prosperity is a collective one. He affirmed his commitment to collaborating with all, regardless of their political affiliations.

The Tribunal, led by Justice Kudirat Akano, had earlier in the day rejected the petitions of PRP’s candidate, Chris Agu, and LP’s candidate, Chijioke Edeoga.

Speaking from the Government House in Enugu, Governor Mbah stated, “This is another momentous day in our state’s history, as the Enugu State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has upheld the mandate that you, the people, freely bestowed upon us on March 18th this year. This victory is not only for the people of Enugu but also for democracy, development, growth, and the overall greatness of Enugu.”

He also praised the tribunal for carefully scrutinizing the petitions and delivering a just and fair decision that resonated with the people of Enugu.

Governor Mbah expressed his renewed confidence in the judiciary as the guardian of justice and the last resort for the common citizen.
