Kanayo Uzuegbu, has assumed the role of the 28th Commissioner of Police for Enugu State Command, succeeding Ahmed Ammani, who has been reassigned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Hailing from Umuaka Community in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State, Kanayo holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (B.A., Hons) from the University of Port-Harcourt, a Higher Diploma in Strategic Studies from the University of Maiduguri, and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) Degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution from the University of Nigeria.
Joining the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (C/ASP), Kanayo received training at the Police Academy in Kaduna.

He has held various positions and served in different State and Zonal Commands, Formations, and at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Throughout his career, Kanayo has served as the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in several Divisions across different State Commands, the Provost Marshall of Benue State Command, Unit/Squadron Commander of No. 15 PMF Ilorin, and the Officer in-charge of the Basic Training Wing at Police College Maiduguri.
He also held roles such as Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Zone 9 Umuahia, Commander of Switch Operation Switch SOS Port-Harcourt, Area Commander in Owerri and Karu Area Commands in Imo and Nasarawa States’ Commands respectively.
He also served as Deputy Commissioner in charge of Administration and the State CID in Edo and Osun States’ Commands, Director of the Central Planning and Training Unit (CPTU) at Police Staff College Jos.
Before his current role, he was the Commissioner of Police overseeing Operations Communication, Department of ICT, at Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Kanayo, who also led Sector 8 El-Dain Africa Peace-Keeping Mission in Sudan, has participated in various training courses, including PMF Unit Combat and Armoured Tank Tactical Maneuver Courses at PMF Training College in Gwoza, Borno State, Junior and Intermediate Command courses, and Strategic Leadership and Command Courses at Police Staff College Jos.
Additionally, he completed a Train the Trainer Course organized by the European Union (EU).
The Commissioner of Police has also received training and certifications in Terrorism and Counterterrorism, Law of Armed Conflict, Security Studies, Restoring Order after Hostilities, Mine Evacuation, as well as Human Rights and Gender Equality.
With over three decades of administrative and operational policing experience, he is a seasoned and accomplished Strategic Senior Officer. He aims to establish a proactive, people-centric, and problem-solving approach to policing in Enugu State, and seeks the unwavering support and cooperation of the State’s citizens.
