Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has issued a stern warning to oil-producing companies operating in the South-East region of Nigeria.
He cautioned them against ignoring the Monday sit-at-home directive, which has been endorsed by his faction of the IPOB.
In a video message shared on his social media handle, Ekpa urged oil companies not to be misled by false information claiming that the sit-at-home order had been called off. He emphasized that any oil company heeding this misinformation and resuming operations would face grave consequences.

Ekpa asserted that the only recognized authority empowered to make decisions regarding the sit-at-home order was the Biafran government in exile, of which he declared himself the prime minister. He stated that until their demands are met, the sit-at-home order will remain in effect.
The demands put forth by the Biafran government include the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of IPOB, and conditions for the autonomy of Biafran territories.
He issued a stern ultimatum to oil companies, specifically instructing them to halt production on Mondays until the specified demands are addressed. He stressed that the Biafran people consider the oil-producing land as theirs and intend to protect their interests.
Ekpa cautioned that failure to comply with the sit-at-home directive would result in opposition from the Biafran people, asserting their control over the land where oil is being extracted. He further underlined that the financial contributions of these companies were aiding the Nigerian government’s efforts to suppress the Biafran cause.
It is important to note that Simon Ekpa’s views represent a specific faction within the IPOB, and there may be differing opinions within the organization regarding the ongoing sit-at-home orders and their effectiveness in achieving the group’s objectives.
