In a recent turn of events, eight of the twenty-five choir members kidnapped from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igan, Akure, the Ondo State capital, have managed to escape from their abductors.
The initial abduction occurred at approximately 3 pm on a Friday when the choir members were en route to Ifon in the Ose council area of the state to attend a burial ceremony.
This incident transpired along the Owo-Ifon-Benin highway, which is notorious for kidnappings and armed robberies and has been plagued by a deplorable state of disrepair.

Confirming this development, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, the Commander of the state security outfit known as Amotekun, announced that eight of the abducted victims had successfully escaped. Adeleye disclosed this information to Vanguard in Akure, the state capital.
Adeleye further revealed that law enforcement personnel from the Police Anti Kidnapping unit, Amotekun Corps, in conjunction with the Nigerian Army, are actively pursuing the kidnappers in the Owo/Ose axis to ensure the release of the remaining victims.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that members of the Christ Apostolic Church have initiated marathon prayer sessions to beseech the safe release of the kidnapped victims.
Previously, the vehicle transporting the victims was abandoned on the highway after they were forcibly taken into a dense forest by the kidnappers.
The Ondo State Police Command has officially confirmed the abduction of the victims. Funmi Odunlami, the spokesperson for the command, shared that the vehicle used to transport the victims, marked with the church’s inscription, was found abandoned in the Elegbeka area, near Ifon. She added, “The Police Anti-kidnapping squad and other tactical teams have been deployed to the area to rescue the victims and arrest all involved in the crime.”
