In a significant development in the investigation into the tragic murder of six police officers in Delta State, the Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of eight individuals believed to be connected to the heinous crime.
The officers, who were on duty in the Ughelli community of the state, were ambushed on February 23 and 26, resulting in the death of six officers, while six others remain missing.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Saturday, highlighting the progress made in the investigation. He stated, “Following intensive investigative efforts, the police have apprehended eight suspects in connection with the brutal ambush attack.”

According to Adejobi, the suspects were apprehended at different locations following thorough investigations. Initially, five suspects were arrested shortly after the incident, with an additional three suspects apprehended subsequently, based on the statements and cooperation of the initially arrested individuals.
“The arrested suspects are currently in custody and are assisting with the ongoing investigation,” Adejobi affirmed. He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring that all those responsible for the reprehensible act are brought to justice swiftly and decisively.
Expressing deep sadness over the loss of the officers, Adejobi emphasized the dedication of the police officers who were diligently performing their duty to protect and serve the community. He extended condolences to the families of the fallen officers, reaffirming the resolve of the police to ensure that the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.
