The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is gearing up for an unrelenting battle against corrupt elements and financial looters in Nigeria.
Mr. Ola Olukoyede, the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, affirmed this resolve during a Road Walk event held in Abuja on Saturday, December 9, 2023, marking the 2023 International Anti-Corruption Day.

“We are going to give sleepless nights to those stealing our money. We are going to remove opportunities for corruption. We are in the era of a new budget. Every money that is released, we are going to track them,” Olukoyede stated emphatically during the event.
Expressing concern about the detrimental impact of corruption on Nigeria’s populace, Olukoyede outlined the EFCC’s refocused mandate to combat corruption effectively. He stressed the need to tackle corruption as a means to drive growth and development across various sectors of the economy, emphasizing the urgency to create job opportunities for the country’s youth.
Under the theme “UNCAC@20: Uniting the World against Corruption,” Olukoyede highlighted the global imperative to combat corruption while expressing the EFCC’s readiness to collaborate with the international community to recover stolen funds stashed abroad.
The Road Walk event witnessed a substantial turnout of Nigerians from diverse backgrounds, including EFCC staff, civil society organizations, representatives from various sectors, and concerned citizens displaying banners condemning corruption. The Inspector General of Police, represented by the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, lauded the event as a symbol of hope for Nigeria’s progress and urged intensified efforts to combat corruption and other crimes.
Additionally, the Chief of Air Staff, represented by a senior officer, pledged support for the EFCC’s anti-corruption crusade and urged Nigerians to rally behind the agency to propel Nigeria toward greatness, emphasizing the necessity of upholding integrity and transparency to harness the country’s potential for development.
