The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, has inaugurated an eight-man committee to develop a roadmap for the education sector in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
The committee, chaired by Dr. Nuhu Yakubu, includes members such as former Deputy Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Ernest Ojukwu, and Professor Sa’ad Umar.
The committee’s mission is to provide a clear roadmap and framework that will guide the Ministry of Education in achieving the goals outlined in President Tinubu’s agenda. One of the key objectives is to address the issue of approximately 10.5 million out-of-school children in Nigeria and equip them with skills for self-sufficiency.
Minister Mamman emphasized the importance of aligning the education curriculum, from basic to tertiary levels, with the demands of contemporary society. He also highlighted the need to assess the infrastructure deficit and financial autonomy in tertiary institutions, promote access and equity, stimulate research and innovation, and strengthen the government-industry-academic relationship.
Additionally, the committee will explore ways to enhance the global competitiveness of Nigeria’s educational system and ensure that the education sector embraces technology for a digital future.
Despite the tight four-week timeframe, Minister Mamman expressed confidence in the committee’s expertise, commitment, and patriotic dedication to the task at hand. The committee is expected to provide valuable recommendations to drive improvements in Nigeria’s education sector.
President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda aims to improve the lives of Nigerians, promote compassion, and address social challenges facing the nation. The education sector plays a pivotal role in achieving these objectives, making the committee’s work crucial to the agenda’s success.
