The Ebonyi State National and State Election Petition Tribunal, located in Abuja, has announced the reservation of judgment in the case brought forth by Michael Nnachi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Linus Okorie of the Labour Party (LP).
The two candidates are challenging the election victory of Dave Umahi from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ebonyi South Senatorial race.
In their petition, Nnachi and Okorie are seeking to invalidate Umahi’s election, alleging that he did not obtain the majority of valid votes in the election. The central grounds of their petition include:

- Majority of Valid Votes: The petitioners contend that Umahi did not secure the required majority of valid votes cast during the election.
- Over Voting: Allegations of over voting in certain polling units have been raised by the petitioners.
- Cancellation of Votes: The number of collected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in areas where elections were annulled supposedly exceeds the margin of victory declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The legal representatives for both the Labour Party (LP) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdulkareem Ibrahim and Tochukwu Maduka respectively, argue that the National Assembly poll that led to Umahi’s senatorial win on February 25 should be nullified. However, Roy Umahi, the counsel for Dave Umahi and former governor, who is now the Minister of Works, has voiced skepticism about the strength of the petitioners’ case before the tribunal.
With the submission of written arguments by all parties involved, the tribunal will now proceed to deliberate and render its judgment. As the parties and their supporters await the tribunal’s decision, the outcome of this case could potentially impact the representation of the Ebonyi South Senatorial district.
