Earthquake claims over 600 lives in Morocco

Late on Friday, Morocco was rocked by a formidable earthquake, tragically claiming the lives of over 600 individuals, according to statistics from the interior ministry.

The powerful 6.8-magnitude tremor struck approximately 72 kilometers (45 miles) to the southwest of the popular tourist destination, Marrakesh, at precisely 11:11 pm (2211 GMT), as reported by the US Geological Survey.

This seismic event sent strong tremors rippling through coastal cities, including Rabat, Casablanca, and Essaouira, prompting frightened residents to flee their homes in the dead of night.
