Dunamis church collapses in Benue, kills pastor, injure 4 others

A tragic incident unfolded in Benue as a church affiliated with Dunamis Church International collapsed, resulting in the unfortunate death of a pastor.

Additionally, four other worshippers also sustained injuries during this incident.

The Commissioner of Police for the state, CP Batholomew Onyeka, confirmed these details during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Makurdi on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Monday, October 2, 2023, at the church’s location in Mission Ward, North Bank area, Makurdi, the state capital. The collapse transpired while the pastor and four others were engaged in prayer inside the church.

An eyewitness, preferring to remain anonymous, recounted, “Worshipers were in the midst of their prayers when the church building suddenly collapsed on them. Upon hearing the collapse, we rushed to the scene to rescue the trapped individuals. It took some time, but we managed to free the victims from the debris. Unfortunately, one person, later identified as the pastor, did not survive.”

The police commissioner clarified that one person lost their life in the incident, while the remaining four injured individuals were promptly transported to the hospital and are currently receiving medical treatment.
