DSP Bright Edafe, the Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Police, has clarified that crossdressing is not a crime in Nigeria.
Edafe’s statement came in response to Twitter influencer Daniel Regha, who commented on the arrest of 100 individuals suspected of being homosexuals in Warri, Delta state.
The police had apprehended the suspects during a same-sex wedding event at a Warri hotel.
In response, Regha called for the arrest of well-known crossdressers, such as Bobrisky and James Brown, suggesting that their prosecution could serve as an example.

Edafe countered Regha’s remarks by highlighting that the arrested individuals were detained for their involvement in a same-sex wedding ceremony, not for crossdressing. He pointed out that there is no specific law prescribing penalties for crossdressing and questioned its classification as an offense.
