The Executive Chairman of Igbo-Eze North LGA, Hon. Michael Uche Ogalla, has commenced the distribution of drugs to 35 health centers in the local government area.
The drug distribution exercise, which started on Monday, February 3, aims to improve healthcare services in the LGA.
Some of the
health centers that will receive the drugs
were visited by the Mayor on Monday include:- Nkpamute Ulo Health Center
- Ogrute Ulo Health Center
- Okata Health Center
- Onicha-Enugu Health Center
- Amufie Health Center
- Igbelle Health Center
- Uda Health Center
- Uroshi Health Center
- Umuadonuowo Health Center
The Council Chairman who was represented by the Secretary to the Local Government Council, Hon. Onyekachi Eya, emphasized the importance of community ownership and participation in healthcare management.
He advocated for the creation of health committees in each community, comprising local representatives who would monitor closely the activities in the health centers and ensure they make good use of the drugs provided. He said the committees would report to the Local Government Advisory Committee on Primary Health Centers.
Furthermore, the Council Chairman sensitized the people about the National Health Insurance Scheme, which provides individuals with access to healthcare services upon payment of an annual premium of Twelve Thousand Naira only.
He encouraged community members to enroll in the scheme.
Recall that soon after assuming office, the Council Chairman formed an Action Committee on Health to help revive the Primary Health Centers in Igbo-Eze North LGA.
Members of this committee comprise the new acting HOD for health, Mrs. Ann Egbebike; Hon. Odeze, Councillor representing Umuozzi Ward VIII; Hon. Dr. Oby Arji of Alive Hope Foundation; Mr. Michael Itodo, SSA to the Council Chairman on Health and Mr. Levi Idoko, the immediate past Local Government HOD on Health.
Members of this Action Committee on Health were part of the team led by the SLG for the distribution of free drugs to the various health centers visited on Monday.
Notably, during the visit to Ogrute Health Center, the Officer-in-Charge, informed the Chairman about donations made by indigenes of Ogrute Ulo resident in Enugu City.
