Commissioner Warns Against Misuse of Police Emergency Numbers, Urges Residents to Cooperate for Improved Security

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, has expressed concern over the misuse of the command’s emergency numbers by undisclosed individuals seeking loans from loan shark companies.

Additionally, non-state actors have been found engaging the emergency lines, leading to mischievous posts that mislead the public.

In response to this alarming trend, CP Haruna Garba has issued a stern warning to those behind such acts, asserting that the police will take decisive action to bring them to justice. The misuse of emergency numbers not only compromises the integrity of the emergency response system but also poses a threat to public safety.

The FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, conveyed the CP’s message, urging non-state actors to desist from such activities and utilize the emergency lines only for their intended purpose. To further enhance service delivery and ensure a secure environment, CP Haruna Garba encouraged FCT residents to cooperate actively with the police.

Residents were also urged to take advantage of the Police Control Room numbers (08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883) to promptly report any suspicious activities. The CP emphasized the vital role that community collaboration plays in combating crime and maintaining public safety.

By reporting suspicious incidents using the designated contact numbers, residents contribute to the rapid response of law enforcement officers, bolstering overall security in the capital territory. The FCT Police are committed to engaging with the community and fostering a partnership that will enhance service delivery and effectively address criminal activities.

In light of recent concerns, CP Haruna Garba debunked a viral report alleging that kidnappers in police uniforms abducted 17 residents in the Apo area of Abuja. The Commissioner assured the public that no such incident occurred within the FCT, emphasizing the police force’s dedication to ensuring public safety and dispelling unfounded rumors.
