Veteran singer and social activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has made a bold statement, claiming that he would walk naked on the streets of Lagos State if Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), emerges victorious at the election tribunal.
Obi and LP filed a petition, challenging the results of the February 25 presidential election, which declared Bola Tinubu as the winner, subsequently leading to his inauguration as the President.
The petition marked CA/PEPC/03/2023 is contesting the outcome of the 2023 general election, alleging irregularities that brought Tinubu to power as the Nigerian president on May 29. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are the respondents in the case.

Expressing his strong support for Peter Obi, Charly Boy took to Twitter to declare that he would jubilate in a unique way if the tribunal announces Obi’s victory. In pidgin English, he stated that he would strip himself naked and walk from Bodillon to Falomo as a celebration of the win.
In a related development, Peter Obi had requested the Presidential Election Petition Court to uphold the order of the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division, in a case where President Bola Tinubu forfeited $460,000 as proceeds of narcotics trafficking and money laundering. Obi’s argument in the court was that Tinubu had never contested the US court order in any competent jurisdiction since 1993, when the order was issued.
As the legal battle continues, supporters of both parties are eagerly awaiting the tribunal’s ruling, and Charly Boy’s unique promise has undoubtedly added an extra layer of attention to the already contentious situation.
