Chief Malcolm Emokiniovo Omirhobo has issued a strong plea to the Nigerian Army and the Federal Government, urging them to exercise restraint and adhere to the rule of law in response to the recent tragic events in Aba, Abia State.
The appeal follows the unfortunate loss of soldiers and property in the area, prompting the army to threaten retaliation.
Expressing sympathy for the loss, Omirhobo emphasized the importance of the Nigerian Army refraining from taking matters into its own hands. “The Nigerian Army must stop taking law into its hands. It must stop resorting to self-help,” he stated. He stressed the need for the military to employ intelligence and avoid brute force, particularly in matters of internal security.

Omirhobo highlighted that even in wartime, intelligence should guide military actions. He cited previous incidents, such as the heavy-handed approach in the Okuama community of Delta State, as examples of what should be avoided.
